The meridians are comparatively similar to the pathway of the nervous system. For example, the acupuncture point Gall Bladder 34 (Yanglingquan) is located along the path of the common peroneal nerve. The scalp acupuncture treatment, formed by Dr. Jiao Shunfa, focuses on a more direct stimulation to the brain by inserting needles into the scalp.
Acupuncture is a safe procedure and works well with other treatments. There are usually no major side effects. Treatment is relatively painless, though some points may be more tender than others. Everyone’s pain tolerance varies, and certain sensations may feel uncomfortable. I am rather sensitive to needles, so I do understand and always take that into consideration when giving a treatment.
If a woman is pregnant, it is important that she lets the provider know, because even though this is a safe procedure, there are still certain points which are contraindicated. However, acupuncture can work wonders in treating nausea associated with morning sickness.
If you have any questions about acupuncture, please give us a call. If you would like, check out our blog on Facebook. I’ll be writing some information on it about acupuncture and what it can treat. I really want to encourage discussion and for everyone to express their opinions.
